The Department of Training & Development is committed to fostering a culture of continuous learning, professional growth, and academic excellence within the Institute. The department serves as a central platform for planning, coordinating, and conducting educational and professional development activities for doctors, nurses, allied health professionals, administrative staff, and trainees.

DEPARTMENT OF TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT

The Department of Training & Development is committed to fostering a culture of continuous learning, professional growth, and academic excellence within the institute. The department serves as a central platform for planning, coordinating, and conducting educational and professional development activities for doctors, nurses, allied health professionals, administrative staff, and trainees. Through structured training programs, workshops, seminars, conferences, and orientation sessions, the department aims to enhance professional competencies, strengthen clinical practices, and support the overall development of healthcare personnel.

The department actively promotes evidence-based learning and interdisciplinary collaboration by organizing sessions on emerging healthcare trends, patient safety, quality improvement, communication skills, leadership development, mental health awareness, artificial intelligence in healthcare, trauma care, and other specialized medical and non-medical topics. It also facilitates Continuing Medical Education (CME) activities and collaborates with internal departments, healthcare institutions, academic organizations, and subject experts to ensure high-quality educational opportunities for staff members.

In addition to academic and clinical training, the Department of Training & Development contributes to institutional capacity building by identifying training needs, encouraging professional skill enhancement, and supporting initiatives that improve service delivery and patient care standards. The department continuously strives to create an environment that encourages innovation, knowledge sharing, teamwork, and lifelong learning, ultimately contributing to the mission of SMBBIT Karachi as a leading trauma and emergency healthcare institute in Pakistan. 

Head of Department

Dr. Beenish Qamar

Dr. Beenish Qamar, BDS, MSPH, MFDS (RCS-UK), MSc (Prosthodontics), is a senior maxillofacial surgeon, public health specialist, and healthcare administrator with more than 20 years of clinical, academic, and leadership experience. Her career includes over a decade of advanced dental and surgical practice in Australia alongside extensive public sector service in Pakistan. She has served in several key leadership positions, including Deputy Director Health Services Karachi, AMS Burns Center, AMS Nursing, AMS Gynecology & Obstetrics at Civil Hospital Karachi, and DMS General at Korangi No. 5 Hospital. She currently serves as Head of Training and Development at SMBBIT, where she leads institutional training strategy, clinical capacity building, and healthcare workforce development initiatives. Over the past 10 months, Dr. Qamar has successfully conducted more than 50 multidisciplinary trainings through the Training & Development platform and has facilitated numerous departmental educational programs. She also serves as a Master Trainer for capacity-building initiatives in collaboration with WHO EMRO and The University of Lahore. Her work reflects a strong commitment to clinical excellence, emergency preparedness, public health advancement, and sustainable health systems strengthening at both national and international levels.
