The Department of Mental Health at SMBBIT was established in 2020 to address the critical gap in mental health care. Since its inception, the Department has adopted a comprehensive and holistic approach for the identification, assessment, and management of both pre-existing and trauma-induced psychiatric and psychological conditions.
The Department focuses not only on diagnosing latent mental health disorders in incoming patients but also on monitoring and managing the emergence of new psychopathologies in individuals undergoing long-term treatment within the institute.
Mental health services are delivered through an integrated liaison model, working closely with surgical teams, as well as ICU/HDU and Emergency units, ensuring timely intervention in acute care settings.
In addition, outpatient services are provided to extend care beyond inpatient settings and to address the broader mental health needs of the community.
