Hospital Waste, due to its content of hazardous substances, poses serious threats to environmental health. This waste generated by health care organizations such as hospitals, Clinics, Physicians’ Offices and laboratories. This waste is very heterogeneous in nature and often contains some infectious elements, thus it is essential that the handling and disposal of the waste is conducted safely.
Segregation of Waste
Hazardous and non-hazardous waste within SMBBIT is collected different containers, identification of waste containers is done by Color coding. For non-hazardous waste a “BLACK” Container used which contains non-hazardous waste. While for hazardous waste is collected in “RED” container to collect hazardous waste.
Collection of Hazardous Waste
Trained and qualified housekeeping team with their supervisor collects waste from all wards on all floors and pharmacies on daily basis for collects the hazardous waste and danger boxes, During Collecting all the Danger Boxes and Empty Vials are also enter on Daily Collection Entry Form with Ward Name, Danger Box quantity, Collection Time, Staff Name and Signature

Trained House Keeping Staff on each floor collect Hazardous waste in color coded waste bins. After then this waste transported from floors via specialized cargo lift (specially designated for waste transportation) to Bio infectious waste treatment plant (Waste Management Department).
Collection of Covid-19 Waste from Covid-19 Floor
The impact of COVID-19 is transforming the way we live, from one day to the next. While national and local interventions are largely focused on protecting lives and economies, management of hazardous waste is also essential to minimize long-term risks to human and environmental health. Waste Management Department pays special attention during collection of Covid-19 waste from Covid-19 wards, A trained House Keeping Staff by the Waste Management Department collect Covid-19 waste from all Covid-19 wards on the Covid-19 floor with full PPEs and SOPs. . After then this Covid-19 waste transported from Covid-19 floors via specialized
cargo lift (specially designated for Covid-19 waste transportation) to Bio infectious waste treatment plant (Waste Management Department).
Hazardous Waste Transportation
Bio-Infectious Waste transportation within the hospital carried out with proper safety protocols through wheeled trolleys, containers, or carts to the plant. Trolleys cleaned and disinfected daily with an appropriate disinfectant. All Bio-Infectious Wastage Bags are sealed in place and intact at the end of transportation to the plant.
Bio-Infectious Waste Treatment

Temperature reaches150 C. at this temperatures Hazardous become normal waste free from harm full bacteria and virus. After then cycle gets completed and waste becomes sterilized.
Temporary Waste Storage
The Waste Management Department usually takes special care not to store the hazardous waste but occasionally it is necessary to store the waste in case of malfunction of the machine or due to excess of waste, In this case the hazardous waste is temporary stored for which a specific place is selected in the Waste Management Department.
Waste Disposal
Incarnated waste after completion incarnating collected into hard polyethylene bags marked and tagged with date and cycle number and hand to housekeeping team leader for disposal at KMC Waste bins.
